Czarnowski Provides Canvas for Inspirational Community Project
For four days this year, a community came together to turn a plain old brick wall into an inspirational neighborhood centerpiece. This outdoor mural project was driven by the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC) to support their youth and young adult councils. Their goals were threefold: connect community leaders and Latino youth; provide a productive outlet for expressing creativity; and depict Latino youth in a positive and promising light. Czarnowski proudly provided the canvas by offering the outside wall of one of our warehouses in Chicago.
Local school children and community role models worked side by side to create their masterpiece. On the fourth and final day, the mural was unveiled in a ceremony which included remarks by elected officials and LULAC representatives and lunch provided by Pizza Hut. The resulting mural is the pride of the neighborhood and an inspiration to everyone who sees it. This project gave new life to a once graffiti-ridden wall, new hope to the community and a new vision of the future to the kids who participated.
This is one of four murals commissioned by LULAC. Others were painted in Washington DC, Atlanta and Dallas. Ernesto Cuevas of RedCielo is the Atlanta-based artist who was commissioned to design the mural for each location.
